The Lilly Pulitzer for Target collaboration was obviously a profitable public relations stunt for both companies.  The line sold out unbelievably within hours or it seemed in just minutes at Target on the launch date April 19, 2015. Additionally, Target will not replenish stock for the fashionistas who waited eagerly in line at stores for a pretty Lilly creation. The Lilly Pulitzer for Target debacle both online (all sold out on the West Coast by 8:00 a.m.) flourished on social media yesterday and made news on The Today Show Monday morning. To further create dissent and injustice some shoppers loaded up carts only to place the items on EBay for sale (9400 items).  As a former career person at a major tech company who understands the "launch" process of a product, it would have been wise to perhaps select certain items that would have enough stock on hand for the buyers rather than leaving the customer frustrated and empty handed. In light of the shock and disappointment, it is my obligation as a fashion writer to point readers to other options.  Yes, the price point will be higher but perhaps one piece of Lilly will suffice instead of nothing at all.   And, yes, customers will remember.
