Jean Jackets 2018

Jean Jackets are the Word...

Marilyn Monroe

Jean jackets remain center stage Spring & Summer 2018.   A jean jacket symbolizes a James Dean vibe and adds a bit of cowboy to any outfit. Additionally, this number can keep one warm on the cool breeze days with vivid blue skies.  Spring and summer outdoor elements provide the perfect arena to wear a crisp white button down shirt underneath this southern concoction.  Currently, I enjoy an embellished blue jean jacket with a pair of white jeans.   Pairing a blue denim jacket with blue jeans is often too much blue tied together for this fashionista. This is a choice preference.  Remember to choose fitted rather than boxy for a clean line silhouette and avoid unfinished hems.  Other essentials can be a scarf, pretty pair of loafers and a ravishing lipstick.   Ah, the days of sun and fun are eagerly anticipated.

"If you are sad, add lipstick and attack" Coco Chanel

It is the small things after all that inspire, add self confidence, lift spirits high and bring joy during the burst of Spring. With the weather being topsy-turvy ranging from cold to wet to warm and then repeat, one is often stuck between winter apparel and spring summer garb.  Along with using the same ole makeup day in and day out.  Of course, these issues are minor and silly compared to the ordinary stresses of daily life.

Thus, it is essential to spice up ones routine with a few makeup choices to add brightness and lasting power for the glorious day.  I have chosen several of my favorites for Spring 2018 and beyond.  As a fan of makeup, I am always trying new items that work well on sensitive skin. Lately, I have been reading about choosing products with less chemicals and ingredients.  Did you know that all these chemicals we swath onto our bodies or faces are quickly absorbed into our system?  The result can be an instant irritant and red rash as well as wreck havoc on our bodies.  I recall when I was younger before thirty, I had no skin issues.  I used Noxema, white hazel and that was all.  In my mature years, I have branched out to lavish moisturizers, creams, sunscreens and have again found myself sitting in a dermatologist office wondering why?  The fountain of youth is so hard to obtain and we have been conditioned too drench ourselves in the latest and greatest youth enhancer.  All with the goal of remaining youthful forever.  Of course, often the most beautiful and attractive in a room are those with the lines of life.  Yet we obsess.

Of course, the answer to my skin problems are easy to understand.  I use too many things on my skin and I am allergic and sensitive to heat from extensive testing.  Maybe the hormonal change places into the skin reactions as well.   Perhaps going back to "less is the best" when it comes to make up and skin care.  Yet, I still love makeup and skincare and will continue using both  with the word "caution".  After all, if something makes you feel better, and look better on any given day then just do it.  Even a filler eliminating a furrow or frown line adds self confidence.  It is the small things in life that makes one self confident.  So, stand tall, sit up straight and embrace these top makeup favorites for Spring 2018.

Luscious Lips

The Best Lipstick:  Yves Saint Laurent! -  My girlfriend was turned onto this lipstick by a friend whose lips had remained perfect all day.   We both bought the matte lip and what a difference.  First notice the applicator which provides the capability of outlining the lips and creating the perfect cupid bow.  More importantly, the lip stain does not come off on glasses and doesn't need to be reapplied. A definite must!

The Best Mascara: CoverGirl Clump Crusher!  I have tried many brands and always come back to CoverGirl Clump Crusher in Very Black. The mascara doesn't flake,  separates lashes making them lush and long.  The brand is also water resistant.

The Best Foundation:  Jane Iredale Glow Time Full Coverage Mineral BB Cream SPF 25 - No one has perfect skin unless you are young and or a baby.  Thus, we need coverage that covers, minimizes pours, protects from the sunshine, smooths and provides a glow.  Use only a little for great coverage.

Yellow Mania Continues 2018

Yearly Yellow with a Happiness Vibe

The happy hues of yellow in apparel remain vibrant and strong in 2018. Last year, you may recall my article on Yellow Apparel Spring 2017 published on April 5, 2017.   And, once again, I seem riveted on these naturally sunny tones that are spontaneous, signify warmth and most eagerly anticipated. Perhaps it is the time of the year with the dripping pools of water, rain, sleet, hail and yes snow that stimulates the mantra, "please let there be sun". Of course, if you are in Palm Desert, California or Scottsdale, Phoenix or a tropical climate yellow rays of sunshine are always forefront and center.  For the rest of us, we are ready to drink up a few bars of light.  And, if rays come forth for a  wee bit, we dance, run outside and have an extra kick in our step.  Yet, when the elements keep on pouring our way, it is time to bring out yellow in our apparel and accessories. While, we are perusing our closets, online stores etc., we might want to think about our actions and words.  Are we using words that are joyous, friendly and kind or words that are angry, loud and ugly?  Could jubilant yellow be a year round event???? Pray tell.

While longing for sunshine in apparel and for the outdoors, I have been wrestling with the fact that dreary weather brings out the worst in everyone. Or does it? For some is negativity a state of mind, of course notwithstanding those with depression issues or are down on their luck? Do pessimistic viewpoints come from not winning, not being heard or not liking what is happening in ones life or beyond? I have been thinking about this topic for sometime.  You can wear the most gorgeous attire, be dressed to the nines and yet your actions and words can either promote or destroy the moment.  Suddenly, the winds of gloomy energy takes over and the joy of grace, kindness, intelligence and beauty are wiped cleanly from the table.   In a world gone mad or just too over crowded with rabid opinions that taint any sort of yellow inspired happiness one starts to wonder just how bad is it? Or is it? If you are an avid history reader, then you know there have always been horrific terrors brought on mankind by mankind.  And, that  history perpetually repeats itself due to the human condition.  Those who believe this is a different time and humanity is more knowledgeable do not see the patterns or recognize their own blindness. Even in these modern days of medical achievements and extraordinary creature comforts there is so much discontent among those lavished in riches who have prominent mouthpieces.

Where are the voices of hope, giving to others and spreading contagious goodwill?  Or the powerful and wealthy building hospitals like Danny Thomas, actor, did seventy years ago with St. Judes Children's Research Hospital in their own backyards?  Even films and television series are desperate, screeching anger, sad, violent, pointless and completely dimwitted. Additionally, how many times have you driven your car and experienced someone exhibiting road rage?  Or where are those that know how to say thank you, no thank you, yes, yes please and your welcome?  How often do people whine, shout, scream, swear or write and forward ugly words of hate and anger on social media, in print, television and film.   Do they understand that their anger is reflected back on them causing concern for their well being. Why so angry?  Do they realize that their animosity is really about something going on within themselves? Everyone can see it except them.  And, where is accountability and responsibility for ones actions or their words?  You see we cannot control anything or anyone, so why be so incredibly disillusioned?

"Control is an infantile illusion."

Just as I was writing this piece, I received a shiny new magazine filled with adverse titled articles and a  department store flier in the mail.  The juxtaposition of the pieces was utterly dramatic.   One is vivid and bright whereas the magazine cover was dull and drab laden with controversial titles.  Why not be colorful and cheery?  I am not saying let's paint the world in roses but instead add a bit of color and warmth that is engaging rather than off putting. Maybe create critical discourse than one sided pieces.  There are always two sides to any story.  Frankly, is life really that morose?

A Yellow Infused Happy Flier

I think not.  Life is what you make it.  Are you making a difference everyday? Reaching out to others, smiling and making the world a better place with strands of golden yellow fervor?  Hopefully, you are filling your hearts with love and spreading good cheer.  And, along the way, wearing a beautiful yellow piece of apparel or jewelry reminding yourself and others that life is a exuberant and an incredible gift.  Don't be a Negative NellyNegative Ned or a Self Righteous Sally or Self Righteous Sam and instead spring forward with the glorious hue of yellow and happiness into your orbit.  Make a difference in your world and more importantly to the people you encounter everyday.  Strike yellow fever and entwine happy thoughts and actions for a brighter day and tomorrow.

My favorite line from the movie, Wedding Crashers (2005):

"What's he got to be so morose about?"

That's right - get going and jump on the yellow train of contentment.
