Forever Chic Style

It is a new year off to a bone chilling start.  On January 7, 2014, all  50  states in America were below freezing.  The  Polar Vortex ( according to the American Meteorological Society glossary - The planetary-scale cyclonic circulation, centered generally in the Polar Regions, extending from the middle troposphere to stratosphere.) which is basically cold air that usually resides in the north pole and south broke away from the main pool of frosty air and moved southward crippling the Midwest, Northeast and the South with below freezing temperatures.   Indeed, a rare occurrence and continues to march forth today on January 29th with snow and ice blanketing Atlanta for the first time in years. The dead of winter can be an icebox experience with minimal light during the day, rain, snow, sleet and hail.  Just how does a Forever Chic Style maven dress for these chill infused days?   Updated - May 21, 2014                     Maleficent opens this Friday, May 30, 2014 .   Disney's PR machine has been hard at work with a barrage of trailers and articles online and in hard copy magazines.  And, this blog on my site has the most hits.   Interestingly Jolie altered cheekbones, added a prosthetic nose, modified both ears and teeth all the while wearing moon sized contacts in order to create a sinister appearance for Maleficent .  My girlfriend from high school,  Jayne Warme Bell's grandmother was one of the original models for Maleficent at Disney .  Thank you Jayne for sharing.   Perhaps Jolie was inspired by this beauty from the 1950's?      It will be fascinating to see how  Maleficent does in the theatres.  The film seems dark and the target audience is a bit unclear whether for adults or children? Either way, Jolie will command the screen and the chances are high the film will be successful.  " Maleficent" , may not hit the notes that mo

            Mary Poppins, the film, released in 1964 after a twenty year march by Walt Disney to obtain the rights of the well known Mary Poppins book series written by author,  P. L. Travers.  Walt Disney's, daughters, were huge fans of   Mary Poppins , creating the two decade mission for Disney to fulfill his daughters wishes and delight audiences far and wide with a movie.   Saving Mr. Banks, is the back story on how this beloved book series became a Disney cinema classic beloved by children, myself and adults around the world.  With a spoonful of sugar, Disney, and Travers, gritty and hardened salt, found each other battling it out for two weeks in 1961 in Los Angeles over the development of Mary Poppins being presented to the world in glorious Technicolor .   This is their story.           Saving Mr. Banks,  begins with  Emma Thompson , P.L.Travers, sitting in her London flat with her agent exclaiming that she is flat broke and that it would be wise to finally accept Disney

     The 86th Oscar nominations were revealed, Thursday, January 16, 2014 .   The list of top nominations is attached.  There were a few upsets and surprises.  Here is my assessment. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science is comprised of 6000 voters.  Each year starting in November an election campaign begins with gimmicks, special screening's, extra releases of film's which are targeted to the elite Hollywood voters to garner votes.  Of course, this is all political as with any nomination for an event, project or race.  Think of marketing for a new car, electronics or running for an office etc. - advertising and marketing plus word of mouth always plays strongly when swaying peers. In this case, a specific movie, actor or actress might be incredible though if not promoted heavily and in a favorable light , the movie, actor or actress is out of the race. " The Wall Street Journal", (They Could Have Been Contenders, Too)  January, 17, 2014, states that m

     The 71st Golden Globe soiree was held on Sunday, January 12, 2014 with the infamous Tina Fey and Amy Poehler at the helm to toast and roast the star studded affair. And, they did it again!!!  The audience roared with laughter, while these two fashionistas rocked on the stage with witty banter and antics. Unlike previous years, this particular affair was graced with the presence of  a multitude of famous A listers Hollywood actors and actresses such as  Robert Redford , Jon Voight , Jacqueline Bisset , Bruce Dern, Michael Douglas , Johnny Depp , Meryl Streep , Jessica Lange ,  Helen Mirren, Emma Thompson, Leonardo Decaprio and many more.
