Meghan Markle & Prince Harry Married - May 19, 2018

All Hail

Duke and Duchess of Sussex

On May 19, 2018, 1B people around the world stopped for a few hours and took in the beautiful wedding of Meghan Markle, American to Prince Harry held at St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, England.  I was one of the many watching from the comfort of my home at 2:30 a.m.  Yes, it was indeed an epic day sprinkled with lush flowers, exalted fashion, open carriage, military, horses, celebrities, royalty, Queen Elizabeth II and the people in Windsor sporting expressions of enthusiasm and excitement.  Thankfully, no stiff or newspaper seeking politicians or dignitaries as requested by Prince Harry.  Thus, a thoroughly modern, refreshing and a bit of a madcap wedding with moments that brought tears, joy and yes, even surprise when a 2 minute sermon requested by Queen Elizabeth II went on for 13 minutes. The reaction of the wedding attendees was a sight to behold.  Alas, Prince Harry will never be king so let there be a joyous and an unfettered occasion.  My fascination with the royal family really began at 20 years of age when Princess Diana, also 20, wed Prince Charles. My friends and I watched the wedding live and loved every moment. Her life was indeed tumultuous, her death tragic and yet her children were a lasting gift to all.  To see them both happily married, Prince William and now Prince Harry is a blessing indeed.  Princess Diana would have been proud.

This particular Cinderella story is indeed brilliant.  Meghan Markle found her match and good wishes surrounded both of them throughout the day.  Even though the tabloids prior to the wedding were as expected ruthless, her mother Doria Ragland was the second star of the wedding party.  Her grace, calmness and ability to handle the spotlight all alone with only her daughter present was indeed courageous.  Doria is obviously the reason behind the self confidence that emanates from her daughter.  Doria's strength, elegance and presence were center stage.  And, hats off to Prince Charles for walking Meghan down the aisle and for taking Doria's hand to be a witness for the signing of the marriage certificate and again taking her arm when walking out of the St. George's Chapel.  It was indeed a remarkable moment and one we should all remember to embrace.  We are walking through this life together, thus include everyone and always display friendship and kindness.  The royal family exemplified this message clearly yesterday.

Let's Get Jolly to It!

The Fashion

First - The Wedding Dress

The Claire Waight Keller for Givenchy gown was constructed of minimal lines, giving a nod towards an elegant fashion statement.  Think Audrey Hepburn rather than an over flounced, over embellished, low cut and beaded concoction meant for the younger set.  The minimalist fashionista vibe was expected from Ms. Markle, since this was her second wedding and she overall prefers classic and simplistic attire.  The pure white gown was embellishment free and echoed her favored icon of the late style maven Carolyn Bessette Kennedy.  The open bateau neckline highlighted her shoulders and emphasized her waist.  The dress was not meant to be fitted but rather gave room to walk gracefully.  The flowers were sparing, again a subtle style choice, picked by Prince Harry, a tradition, from the Kensington Palace gardens. Notice, the bouquet similarities in photo below of Audrey Hepburn, Funny Face, 1956.  However, it was the 16-and-a-half-foot veil that captured attention.  She wanted to have all 53 Commonwealth countries represented in this masterpiece as she journeyed through the ceremony.  The florals were chosen and interwoven with crops of wheat to symbolize love and charity.  This dress was worn to the ceremony and to a luncheon for 600 wedding guests.  The children carrying the veil were priceless.

"I have the luxury of wearing beautiful pieces of clothing every day for work, so my personal style - wedding or not - is very pared down and relaxed," she said. "Classic and simple is the name of the game, perhaps with a modern twist.  I personally prefer wedding dresses that are whimsical or subtly romantic." - Meghan Markle

Second - The Second Wedding Dress

The Stella McCartney, second wedding dress for the 200 invited to the reception was breathtaking.  The cut, the fit and the high neck were absolutely royal carpet ready.

Third - The Children

One word only:  Unforgettable!

 Fourth -  800 Wedding Guests - Favorites

There were many gorgeous outfits and everyone looked dazzling.  It was also spectacular to see them walk down a long street into St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle on a sunny day.  The colors and outfits were mesmerizing.   There were only a few who missed the memo on hemlines below the knee and not to wear black.  Other than that, all shined on this day.

Alas, the wedding is over.  It was a whirlwind affair, royally entertaining and a far cry from being stuffy and boring.  May the Duke and Duchess of Sussex live happily ever after.  After all, the fairy-tale has begun and the real adventure is about to begin for this happy couple.

Stand by Me

When the night has come
And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we see
No I won't be afraid
No I won't be afraid
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

And darling, darling stand by me
Oh, now, now, stand by me
Stand by me, stand by me

If the sky that we look upon
Should tumble and fall
And the mountain should crumble to the seas
I won't cry, I won't cry
No I won't shed a tear
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

And, darling, darling stand by me
Oh, stand by me
Stand by....

Royal Wedding - Dresses for You!

The Frock of the Moment

Meghan Markle (Navy Roland Mouret - Barwick Dress) & Her Mother, Doria Ragland

May 19th is hours away from the wedding of the year to commence between American born Meghan Markle and across the pond royal, Prince Henry.  It will indeed be quite exciting with 1B people watching with delight and happiness from around the world.   The fashion, the people, the celebrities, the royals, the horses, the carriage, Queen Elizabeth II and so much more.  Yesterday, while shopping with a girlfriend for her wedding dress, we stumbled upon a dress collection by Chiara Boni La Petite Robe that is simply divine.  In fact, I do believe the commentators on The Today Show this a.m. were sporting frocks similar to this brand.  Ms. Markle above in the photograph is wearing a dress by Roland Mouret that sings the same silhouette.   Bottom line, these dresses are elegant, minimal and extremely flattering.  Additionally, for a royal wedding shoulders must always be covered accompanied by a fashionator, gorgeous pumps and a small handbag.  For us American's a hat is not necessary but covering the shoulders is a nice touch. Give these concoctions a royal whirl. You too can be a princess for a day.  A spot of brilliance.

Mothers Day!

Let's Hear it for Motherhood!

We are all mothers both female and male.  We all have mothers.  You are a mother.  You may have a family or not. You might have given birth or not.  However, we are all mothers to every creature in our orbit.  If you are lucky, you give yourself to others everyday, to your pets, to your friends, to your children and to those we love.  Each day is a gift to be cherished.  So, on this special day, may all of us mothers take a moment and notice the beauty around.  You are blessed. You truly are no matter your circumstances. Do something nice for yourself.  Buy some flowers, eat cake, give a hug, smile and be thankful.   If your mother is still with you then give her a hug and thank her for your life and all she has given you.  And, let's remember the mothers who have passed for they breathed life into you and gave you so much.  They too reside in your heart.  Ah, it is a glorious day.

Happy Mother's Day!

Love is in the Air!

Meghan Markle & Ralph & Russo Wedding Dresses 2018

This month on May 19, 2018 marks the royal wedding of Prince Harry to American born actress Meghan Markle.  Many across the planet are aware of this wedding extravaganza and ardently await the pomp and circumstance.   They estimate over a billion people around the world will view the wedding via the telly or the internet.   It is indeed a brilliant time to focus on love and the cherished ritual of celebrating two people who vow to commit to one another.  In a world that is subjected to hate, jealousy and envy it is refreshing and posh to come together and enjoy the festivities on May 19th.  With anticipation we eagerly await the dress, the hair, the makeup, the attendees and all the frivolities that come with such a grand occasion on a worldwide scale.  The wedding is guaranteed to be a magical event.

Along with this fairy tale wedding we are reminded of true love and connection by witnessing another American woman marry into the British royal monarchy that originated in 827.   Those that read history or perhaps watch Downtown Abbey, The Crown, Victoria and or the The Vikings understand that power, strength and tradition of a monarchy or excellent leadership can bring stability to the people. The might of a heavy hand combined with love of country and protection of a country is always paramount.  Like all countries their are times of strife, discontent but the backbone of tradition and expectations always brings the focus back to the forefront.  Of course, there are a naysayers who ooze jealousy, envy and self righteousness while cowering behind fraught words meant to destroy and demean.   Yet, deep down they know that a social system binds the people together in good times and in bad.   Without a connection or any type of social structure may it be religion, a political system or a team atmosphere then only chaos, selfishness, eventual failure or downfall and hate exist.   A world about yourself, only yourself, making money for yourself is a folly existence and empty.  In the end, money, your possessions, spouting self serving sermons mean absolutely nothing.  It is your character, integrity and how you treat people that matters.  And, a society with structure, manners and expectations remains supreme.  Connection to others is the gatekeeper to happiness.

Thus, love is in the air this glorious May.  In preparation for upcoming weddings, brunches, outings or just daily activities a cocktail dress is making a strong comeback.   Being feminine is indeed a privilege.

What to Wear?

Finding a cocktail dress for a Spring or Summer wedding can be quite an ordeal.  For 2018, look for frocks slightly above or below the knee that are fitted and in a sheath silhouette.  These numbers can be worn to weddings, brunches or evening events.  Stay away from white if attending a wedding. Remember  The Little Black Dress is always formidable and flattering.  Here are a few selections for your pleasure.
