The 70th Annual Golden Globes bash was held on January 13, 2013 attended by Hollywood’s finest ladies and gents   draped in hues of demure nudes, rich palettes of reds and wines, a few daring blues and many in stylish black gowns.   Similar to 2012, form fitting dresses with fishtails hems prevailed along with sweetheart necklines combined with shimmer, shine and sheer fabrics with perfect hair and makeup. The men wore elegant black suits, some in black tuxes and perhaps outdid the women in 2013.    George Clooney, Ben Affleck and Hugh Jackman led the pack for the men. Alas, a few mishaps such as Holly Berry and Emily Blunt with  bizarre material cutouts, Lucy Liu with a Gone with the Wind concoction in a wallpaper pattern meant for a garden room at Versailles and Sienna Miller with flowers all over in a non-flattering two-piece gown. Lastly, several evoked Angelina Jolie...

Django Unchained (2012): Jamie Fox, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel Jackson, Kerry Washington

Image
Django Unchained is a woven tapestry of  spaghetti Western films, other movies and television shows all rolled into one outrageous, entertaining and violent flick.  The acting is unrivaled, script ingenious, music delightfully bold, with good versus evil culminating in the ultimate revenge that is so seductively sweet.   Django Unchained is one of the best films of the year.  Tarentino has done it again. The story begins two years prior to the Civil War in the deep south where slavery is rampant and the plantation owners rule the land.   Dr. King Schultz, Christoph Waltz poses as a German dentist though in actuality is a bounty hunter where killing the dangerous, twisted and evil is highly profitable.   In searching for the "wanted dead or alive" Brittle brothers, Shultz propositions Django, Jamie Fox , with freedom if recognizing the brothers and subsequently is taught...

Life of Pi (2012): Suraj Sharma, Irrfan Rhan, Rafe Spall, Gerard Depardieu

Image
Life of Pi is an absolutely visually stunning epic with a well told story from start to finish.  The entire feat is mesmerizing between the young Pi, Suraj Sharman , and the older Pi, Irrfan Khan  recounting the tale of surviving a ship wreck at sea to the writer, Rafe Spall.   The brilliant saga begins with a  young Pi growing up with his father and family managing a local zoo.  Hence, Richard Parker, a Bengal tiger is introduced to the audience as a vicious predator.  The family must sell and move to Canada.  Thus, on a ship, the animals are packed away along with the family.  Similar to Noah's arc.   A disaster entails and the story becomes an journey of adventure and discovery.  A young man lost at sea with a connection to another survivor - Richard Parker - a Bengal tiger. Zero Dark Thirty (2012): Jessica Chastain, Joel Edgerton, Chris Pratt, Kyle Chandler, Jason Clarke

Zero Dark Thirty is a riveting and captivating chronicle of the 10 year CIA hunt for Osama bin Laden after the abominable September 11, 2001 attack killing 3000 American citizens. The opening of the film was horrifying in portraying the final minutes of those trapped in the twin towers in New York city. The scene sets the stage for all that transpires in this must see film. Jessica Chastain plays CIA analyst and operative Maya who is obsessed with finding Osama bin Laden spending the next ten years on an all encompassing mission. Chastain is top notch as the intellectual and hands on Maya who deserves both the  Golden Globe and the Oscar for  Best Actress in a dramatic film.  The paths that are taken to locate this diabolical killer are graphic and not for the feint of heart.   Jason Clarke , Dan, is the hardcore CIA integrator, Kyle Chandler , Joseph Bradley, CIA Station Chief and Chris Pratt , Navy S...
