Life of Pi (2012): Suraj Sharma, Irrfan Rhan, Rafe Spall, Gerard Depardieu

Life of Pi is an absolutely visually stunning epic with a well told story from start to finish.  The entire feat is mesmerizing between the young Pi, Suraj Sharman, and the older Pi, Irrfan Khan recounting the tale of surviving a ship wreck at sea to the writer, Rafe Spall.  The brilliant saga begins with a  young Pi growing up with his father and family managing a local zoo.  Hence, Richard Parker, a Bengal tiger is introduced to the audience as a vicious predator.  The family must sell and move to Canada.  Thus, on a ship, the animals are packed away along with the family.  Similar to Noah's arc.   A disaster entails and the story becomes an journey of adventure and discovery.  A young man lost at sea with a connection to another survivor - Richard Parker - a Bengal tiger.

The movie is about survival, religion, life, family values and spirituality all wrapped in a visual drape of unparalled beauty.   The acting is superb, the adventure real and the cast utterly amazing.   Enjoy the emotional roller coaster as one man depicts the adventures in a harsh sea with a fierce animal.  And, in the mix, Pi wrestles with spirtuality and the essence of life. Be prepared to laugh, cry, feel fear and at the end of the saga - walk out of the film knowing that a masterpiece in film artistry has been achieved and witnessed.   Life of Pi IS the movie of the year.  And, Life of Pi will be seen over and over again. See it on the big screen and in 3-D!
