Patience & Manners Please

It is that time of year once again for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.  Currently, you can preview the upcoming sale online.  This allows you to create a "Wish List."   If you have a Nordstrom card, you can shop early.  For instance, Icon status begins on Monday, July 12th.  Check online for your start date.  The Nordstrom sale will open fully to everyone on Wednesday, July 28th.

A couple of comments before we discuss on what will sell out quickly.   Since the country is opening up after a year and half of shutdowns due to Covid 19 pandemic, it is imperative that you access your skills at being patient.  Lately, I have noticed that many are impatient in their cars, public transportation (ferries for me), and in public places where businesses and restaurants are struggling to serve and be open.  The rude behaviors and lack of manners has been shocking.

Maria Shriver, wrote a terrific piece several weeks ago, about digging deep and relishing patience.  Be it on a plane, driving your car and yes while shopping.  Why the rush? We are in this renewal together as a team. Similar to sports and in life there is no I in the spelling of the word team.  Put your chill hat on, have soothing thoughts and know your turn will come. 

Please use your manners, seek out being kind, smile and know that everyone is under stress to  accommodate and support your needs.  Companies are short staffed and full recovery will take time.  My suspicion is the sale might be a bit chaotic, more than usual instore. Thus, buy a coffee, relax, and treat the employees wherever you go and at this year's sale with respect.  Ask them how they are doing, smile and learn to stand in line with grace.  You are a Zen master.

At a glance, I noticed that the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2021, is limited in high end quality items to purchase for me.  I am not one to select cheaply made apparel that will not last the test of time.  Nor do I seek out trends and throw away items. 

Instead, I enjoy quality and well-constructed classic apparel.  I would recommend purchasing basics such as winter coats, turtlenecks, lingerie, socks, boots, jeans, pants, athletic wear, and a few makeup items.  Look at the fabrics that the item is made from of too.  If you love only cashmere, like I do, then select pieces only with this fabric. If you see nothing, then save your dollars.  Additionally, there are lots of summer choices on sale too. 

The Office - Dress for Success

Many of you are thankfully heading back to the office.  How exciting to be back in the throng, working with others, taking breaks together, being social plus creating or developing for your company.  Embrace the upcoming work world.   While you are at it, upgrade your wardrobe with items that make you stand out in a crowd. 

For instance, seek out a terrific pair of Theory black pants, sadly not on sale, for your initial wardrobe.  Dress it up.  You do not want to be seen in athletic wear or a pair of jeans. No, no and no.   If you must wear jeans, only wear a deep dark navy denim without tears or rips.   Appear professional.   You have only been seen online for months, thus, make an entrance and dress for success.  It does make a difference even if you think it does not.   You will exude self-confidence and is shows. 

On that note, I just listened and read about two people who were and are self-confident with everything they have accomplished in their lives.  Elizabeth Banks and Val Kilmer, both actors, stood up for what they wanted and never wavered.   They went after what they desired and were not swayed by others pushing them to take on a role.  Additionally, took time to appear usually appear professional.  

Thus, dress for success, be a leader, stick to your values and push forward with enthusiasm.  Moreover, get your hair done and colored, paint your nails and add some lipstick.  You want to appear fresh and youthful. At least, I would like to think you do.

Recently, I watched a video by Trinny London who swears by Nu-FACE.  This gadget helps tone your facial muscles.  As we age, the muscles in the face become smaller, which leads to sagging and wrinkles.  If there is one item, I intend to purchase at the sale, it is this gadget.  London recommends using Aloe Vera as the conductor versus the NuFACEgel primer.   I have sensitive skin, so something natural is best for me.
