Classic Charm - Houndstooth, Plaids...

Sign of the Times -

The Classic's with Grace and Manners

History, art, fashion and daily life always repeats itself throughout history.  After many years of  the "all about me" cemented by the media, many have grown weary of the selfish and the fake.  It is easy to state an opinion let live completely the opposite, which is frightening and troubling. One couple who seems to live with grace in the public eye following royal and society protocol is the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.  Their words match their actions which in our current state of affairs is indeed rare.   If a country does not have a set of social mores to adhere too then the social fabric of a collective is broken.  My opinion is the circle of life is turning and most want societal norms put back in place.  Individual independence is important but remembering that you are not alone in this life is imperative.  Thus, grace, manners and yes classic apparel in  fashion is on an upswing.

Film and television reflect the change as well.  Yellowstone, Paramount Series, is an example where the human condition is upfront and center yet the undercurrent is "we are one"  together. We stand together.  We fight together.  Many are eagerly awaiting the release of  Downtown Abbey, movie, on September 20, 2019 for similar reasons. Thus, the fashion industry is making a comeback and embracing classic apparel.  The days of dull and boring are over.   Additionally, the trendy home decor of  grey and white tones are fading away. Where are the books, the decor and the essence of warmth hues that make a home a home? Think of east coast interior designer Sister Parish who filled rooms for decades with comfort and charm.  So what is coming back full force in fashion and lifestyle?  Drum roll please, classic apparel, colorful tones, superb manners, understanding your fellow man and lastly working as a team.

Without a team spirit, all is lost.  It is time to be kind to others, to stop racing too and fro, to forgive and forget, to be thoughtful and to stop the "selfish, all about me, I am right and you are wrong" mantra.  We are not alone.  You are not alone. We are a collective.  I read an interesting article on what makes a leader in the Wall Street Journal  by previous Secretary of  Defense, Jim Mathis.  The focus was on his career and leadership.  The essence was "we" cannot continue being tribal, me versus you, instead we need to be united together as one.  A leader unites and doesn't divide.

Karl Lagerfeld, in his last collection, reflects the beauty of life and changes in the air through apparel.  The winter wardrobes of houndstooth in the snow signifies the dignity of fashion.   You are what you wear.  You are what you say or communicate.  Your anger can hurt you. Why not open your heart to love and learn to unite others.  Put down the "selfish" baton and begin to tout the "one together" mantra.  Perhaps, your own personal fashion can begin the process.  Think Audrey Hepburn, who passed in 1993, yet remains at the top as a mentor of grace, fashion and elegance.  Her words matched her actions. Do yours?  Where do you stand? Who do you want to be?  The choice is at your fingertips.

Life is glorious.  Isn't it?  I  hope you are enjoying the first touch of fall.  Get your classic apparel out and be ready to enchant, connect and spread hope and joy to all.  Life is a journey and being authentic is a key component to a strong character.  Know that words do have power and your actions are a reflection of who are you in this world.   On that note, enjoy the last moments of summer and embrace the fall to come.
