Cotton Apparel

Nature's Gift to Us

"I love things that age well - things that don't date, that stand the test of time and that become living examples of the absolute best."  - Georgio Armani, Italian fashion designer

The touch of cotton against the skin is sublime and the coolness is refreshing. Recently, I have suffered another bout of rashes from fabrics that are synthetic.  This happens about once a year when combined with heat, running, hitting a tennis ball, and sweating.  You would think I would have learned by now to wear cotton or switch out of my apparel right after a match.  The chemicals, dyes and fabrics used for athletic wear often create allergic reactions for me.  Thus, I am on a mission to acquire fabrics that are natural rather than man-made nylons, spandex, polyester etc.

"Today, buying a dress is like buying a Big Mac; cheap, fast and, judging by the poorer quality seen in fast fashion clothes, not very healthy."  - Christina Dean, Redress founder, and Chief Executive Officer

The challenge with this task is locating 100 percent cotton.  When you do find this pure and luxurious fabric it often comes with a steep cost.  We know that if you spend a bit more, the piece will become a favorite in your collection for years to come.  Additionally, in this precarious economy, it is best to purchase an item with "nature-made" fabrics versus all the new fandangoed material mixes (cheap) that for some can cause itch, redness and does not allow the skin to breathe. Moreover, they do not last and as Jerry Seinfeld, comedian, sited in one of his routines, and with my added spin, everything you purchase on a whim without measured thought can end up in your garage and then in a landfill.  It is like eating Cheetos, chips, and fast food, which create havoc with your body versus sticking to fruits, vegetables, and protein.  Heaven, forbid you start eating fake manmade meat versus real meat.  Ask yourself would a lion eat fake meat to survive?  You have your answer.  What you put in your body and wear on your skin can affect your overall health.

Will I give up my athletic wear completely?  No.  I will adjust my routines and enjoy every moment of each day.   Here are two of my favorites.

Eberjey - The Pajama

Rag & Bone - The Crewneck Tee

The weather is changing, and fall is here.   I love it.  The cool air combined with the oranges, reds and golds along with rain, and wind brings me a sigh of relief.   As a Northwest Pacific gal, it is time to enjoy the cold evenings with a fire burning, cats curled up and family. What more do you need?  Maybe a tennis racquet now and then with good friends.  Enjoy the journey for it is a glorious one.

That's a Wrap!

Until Next Time,
Kim Hardwick
