Bedtime Stories - Fashion for Night

Recently, after meeting with several girlfriends, I was reminded of our matching pajama tee shirts in college that we wore every night to bed.   I wore my short red tee-shirt with a blazing yellow owl for years after college until one day I realized that this beloved specimen was a tad worn out and perhaps not that attractive to myself or anyone else. Finally, after many moons of use, the lovely piece was retired. Which brings me to the main topic of the moment:  What is ultimate apparel to be worn in the darkened hours? Yes, we dress well during the day for ourselves and the world with hair coiffed and a smudge of makeup but at night do we keep putting our best foot forward or do we digress and wear a spouses old tee-shirt and grandma underwear?  The Today Show recently did a poll among the female commentators and found out they wore tee-shirts and underwear to bed. Exactly my point - they were polished, poised and pulled together by day but at night draped in something not as attractive to themselves or others.  And, possibly still wearing the 20 year old tee-shirt. The question is why do we beatify by day and become drab and boring at night?  Or are we putting ourselves last at the end of the day?

Well, many years ago after giving up my shapeless and tattered pajamas, I decided it was necessary to start purchasing soft and silky concoctions for the nighttime and early morning routines.   A nice pair of pajamas combined with a beautiful robe suddenly commanded compliments because even with cold cream slathered on or a cup of coffee or tea in hand in the morning - I appeared attractively presentable to self and others.   Neatly tailored pajamas can make you feel beautiful on a dark and cold night or a silky chemise against the skin can be luxurious. Now - there is only one slight catch - it is difficult to find beautiful nighttime apparel.  The fabrics and cut can either be too childlike, bulky or just plain ugly.   However, never fail - I do have a few favorites.
