Summer Sunshine Fun

Summer solstice is here with all the glory of sunshine, barbecues, pool parties and everything outdoors.  The heat and yellow orb glowing in the sky brings summer excitement along with smiles, happiness and of course questions on what exactly to wear for pool time?  After spending time in Maui, Hawaii under tropical influences the observation of attire was rather interesting. Being a bit sensitive to the golden sun, a 50 SPF cover-up was worn daily along with extra sunscreen, hats and sunglasses for pool or ocean activities.  Alas, the annual sun rash came forth in full bloom. However, not to be deterred from warmth and water delights, the opportunity to relax, gather and assess the best bathing suits for Summer 2017 was indeed helpful.  And, with a fellow mate's, husband's opinion, it was easy to create the ultimate swim guide.

"The days of tanning are over for obvious reasons.   Covering up plus sunscreen is a must."

The Bikini

I.  Bikini Madness:  Let's face it - very few women can pull of the bikini after the teenage years.  The body changes as the time clicks away and along comes a more feminine silhouette with curves rather than a lean and mean youthful physic. Combine having children or stress, work etc., that leaves little time for working out and suddenly the once "skinny minnie babe" of yesterday is a bit soft and rounded.   Even working out often and starving the body of nutrients cannot completely eliminate the new found figure.  Sure, a body can be whittled down to bone and muscle from working out, which frankly isn't that attractive, strong yes, but not the best fit for a bikini. However, do not fret, there are solutions and the most memorable bikini mavens are not wearing less but more.

II. The Terrific Tankini:  A little bit bikini and a little bit one-piece suit conceives beauty all rolled into one - The Tankini.   Tankini's come is all hues, with ruffles, hipster and or bikini bottoms.  The advantage of the Tankini is the perfect solution for water activities, swimming, ample coverage while providing sun protection. The ease of use is noted and preferred by one-piece swimsuit aficionados.  The effect is show stopping and the styling and comfort is supreme.

Sensational One-Piece

III. Stop the Press Swim Wear:  The one-piece swimsuit is by far the most flattering on all shapes and sizes.  There have been several celebrity sightings at a prominent hotel in Maui with both sporting the infamous one-piece.  The first was a blonde beauty in red (Kim Basigner)  and the other held court on the phone and then on the beach in a gorgeous brown number (Maria Shriver).   Fashionistas can never EVER go wrong in a one-piece.  In fact, mystery is evoked while a bathing beauty takes in rays of gold.  Why look at Kendall Jenner in Cannes 2017?  Need more be discussed?

Books to Read - February 2021

Read, Read, Read "We read to know we are not alone." C.S. Lewis Do you love to read? I do.  In fact, I always have a book on deck for my pleasure.  I wake up in the morning and carry my favorite novel downstairs.  It is how I start and end my day.  I am always reading.  It is my quintessential past time.  What do I like about the novels I chose?   I enjoy historical fiction with tales about the human condition.  Or I love stories told in a new place that I have never visited. Afterwards, I want to travel there and sink into the surroundings.  If I enjoy an author, I will read ALL  his or her books.  I tend to read books where the woman is the lead character.   I enjoy the strife, angst, and messiness of the characters' lives and how they prevail with strength, wisdom and love.  The struggle reminds me of the complexity of life and the beauty all in one snapshot.   Additionally, authors who share human drama, vivid details of the landscape and scenery plus poured their h

Happy Valentines Day 2021

Love is in the Air!!!  Or is it Snow? "Where there is love there is life." Mahatma Gandi What Does Valentine's Day Mean to You?  It is snowing hard here in the Pacific Northwest.  We have eight inches, and it is still swirling down and covering everything.  The beauty of snow changing the landscape is a sight to behold.  Ever since I was a child, I have loved the snow.  We used to play endlessly in the streets building snowmen, having snowball fights, making snow angels, sledding and creating igloos. We did not go inside until we were cold, wet, and hungry.  We were always in the elements playing with friends or family members. The days of being a child without a care in the world are indeed cherished.  Today, I love the sound of kids playing in the snow.  It is wonderous.   Of course, Valentines Day 2021 for me is a winter wonderland.  Hopefully, we will continue to have power.  It remains to be seen.  Mother nature moves at its own pace and can never be accurately pr

Winter Fashion 2021

The Chilly Artic "Good clothing is a passport to happiness." Yves Saint Laurent Yves St. Laurent Fashion Exhibit - Seattle Art Museum (2016) The winter of 2021 has been brutally cold across the country.  One for the ages. With snowstorms, bitter winds and ice, the frigid temperatures have seeped into everyone's bones.  Even places slated to be warm in February tend to be on the cooler side of the temperature gage.  Though, I must note that temps are slowly getting warmer in the sun infused states.  Beyond the weather, nerves remain flared as people struggle to get the vaccine, keep safe and bundled up all in one sweep.  The stress is at an all-time high.  It seems to me; we need to sit back and figure out how to be helpful to one another.  To be positive and appreciative for family and friends during these trying moments. We are closer to having everyone vaccinated and getting back to a semi-normal life.  In the meantime, we must be patient and diligent awhile longer.

Perfume Spritz - My Favorite Things

Beauty in a Bottle "Perfume heralds a woman's arrival and prolongs her departure." Beauty is hard to describe.  The very essence of what is beautiful varies from person to person, culture to culture and land to land.  Perfume is similar to the idea of beauty. It is subjective.  Perfume is a mystery, and its elixir is a marvel. The scent becomes its own magic.  It is the lingering scent that creates a moment or recreates a memory of a person.  Whether it is spice, floral or warm notes of lavender or vanilla, a scent can bring immense comfort and pleasure.  What does stand the test of time is a signature perfume.  Perfume was created in 1340 for the Queen of Hungary.  Thus, the story of fragrances commenced.  Perfume remains at the top of everyone's list of "feeling good."  Additionally, perfume sales in 2020 were close to $34B.   We all have experienced being around someone who smells divine.  The scent is memorable and hard to capture in a bottle. Even in
