Wearing White After Labor Day?

White Hot or  NOT?

The debate marches on whether fashionistas across the land can or cannot wear white after Labor Day?   The fashion apparel rule "White can be worn after Memorial Day and not after Labor Day" started back in the Gilded Age period of 1800's to early 1900s.  The wealthy during the dog days of summer basked in white showing prestige while the laborers wore black and drab suits.  Labor Day signified the end of summer and the finality of wearing white for the summer season.   During the 1950's, fashion editors put down the gauntlet and enforced the rule.  Whereas, today in the year 2014, the controversy remains fresh with no real solution,  some will, some will not and either is acceptable.  However, there are a few pointers to help address the white or not subject.  Finally, for this fashion maven putting away the stark white garments does signify the end of summer with the joyous and gorgeous Fall looming around the corner.

I.   White Jeans - Sporadic Usage after Labor Day - YES & NO:  In September, when the weather remains warm, it is often hard to refrain from slipping into a favorite pair of white jeans.  Proceed with caution and wear sporadically on a sunny day or to the first football game of the season.  With the rains on the way, white is bound to get dirty and not look as fresh and sleek as during late spring and summer.  Slowly store away and instead bring out dark denim for Fall 2014.

NOTE:  Never wear white jeans tucked into boots. White jeans are best with sandals, flats or pumps.

V.   White Pumps & Sandals - NO  Never after Labor Day. Store and do not wear. Actually, white pumps are not flattering during anytime of the year.  White sandals can be worn during summer months.  Yet, a bone of caramel color sandal is more favorable.

VI.  White Ensembles - NO:   Never after Labor Day. Winter white is preferable and softer in tone against the dark, wet and rainy weather.

VII.  Cream & Winter White:  Winter white is simply stunning especially in a warm coat.  Buy a sweater or two in winter white for cozy nights with a fire burning.  And, a winter white coat is a must have staple.

VIII.    White Wedding Dress Year Round -YES:   A white dress is always perfection for the special day.  Angelina Jolie, Saturday, August 23, 2014, married Brad Pitt after nine years and six children. Jolie was show stopping stunning on the cover of People magazine in a Atelier Versace white gown.  Jolie and Pitt children, Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne and Knox customized the train of the frock with whimsical and colorful drawings.  The designer Luigi Massi, the design house's master tailor, sewed designs of the drawings onto the gown. The end result is fresh, gorgeous and unforgettable.  Apparently, even Pitt gasped when Jolie walked down the aisle with Maddox and Pax giving her away.  Congratulations are indeed in order to the happy couple and family.

"To wear white or not after Labor Day? The age old debate will continue on just as the seasons change.  The answer is an individual choice.  Yet, with the start of school in September and a new season about to begin it is comforting to store away summer memories and apparel while breaking out fall favorites in anticipation of new adventures."
