Summer 2014

Summer 2014 is here along with the hot sunshine, cool breezes and long glorious days.  Weddings, parties and evenings out often require men to step out in a stylish suit rather than a of pair of jeans or khakis.  Bonobos has the answer with a tailored and refined Summer Suits 2014 collection of lightweight Seersucker and Cotton suits.

Background

Background: Bonobos, Inc., an apparel company based in New York was launched exclusively online in 2007 by Andy Dunn, founder and CEO of Bonobos and Brian Spaly.  After years, of struggling to find a flattering pair of pants that fit perfectly without always having to go to the nearest tailor, these Stanford Business School grads designed and marketed the ultimate pant that fits the silhouette of a man's body.  The waistband is not the standard level waistband and instead has a curve for a better fit along with less material and a comfortable tailored thigh without being loose. Many of the styles have a contrasting lining in Hawaiian flowers, polka dots etc. prints adding a touch of fun. The well crafted and high quality apparel line includes pants, suits, denim, shirts, shorts, swim and outerwear.  My husband is a huge fan of Bonobos and owns several pairs of shorts.  The quality and fit are exceptional. Additionally, the price point does not break the wallet.   In 2012, Bonobos, Inc., expanded the brand's presence developing e-commerce stores called, "Guideshops" and by partnering with the customer service retail mogul - Nordstrom

The Suit Fit Guide

“Fit is the most important detail for a suit. Marry that with classic color options and quality fabric, and you have a great looking, versatile suit for every occasion.”

-Dwight Fenton, Bonobos VP of Design.

Men's Suit Fitting Requirements

  1. Starts with the Shoulders: The jacket should grab your shoulders snug but not be overly tight. If the shoulders fit, pretty much anything else can be adjusted.
  2. Length Matters: To determine the appropriate length, you should be able to cup the bottom of the suit with your arms by your side.
  3. Show Some Shirt: A flexible but general rule of thumb is to have a quarter-inch of your shirt cuff showing. If you’re wearing a heavier cuff, like a French cuff, you may want to show a little more.

Men's Wedding Dress Code

  1. Informal (morning or afternoon):  Navy, Grey or Striped Gray suit & tie
  2. Formal Daytime (up to 6:00 p.m.):  Navy, Black or Oxford grey with grey vest, gray striped trousers and tie
  3. Formal Evening (after 6:00 p.m.): Tuxedo or Dark Suit - Navy, Charcoal grey, black and tie
  4. lack Tie Preferred or Requested: Tuxedo, waistcoat, tie or bow tie.  If do not own or cannot rent - wear a dark suit.  Well shined shoes.
  5. Black Tie Optional:  Host suggests wearing a Tuxedo but not required.  Well shined shoes.

Men's Must Have Suits in Wardrobe

  1. First and Foremost: Navy Blue Suit
  2. Second:  - Dark Grey Suit
  3. Third: Pinstripe Suit
  4. Shirts:  Own several well fitted shirts - white, French blue & black
  5. Shoes:  Purchase a pair of wingtip shoes in Black. Spend the most one can afford.
  6. Ties:  Own a selection of ties.

Books to Read - February 2021

Read, Read, Read "We read to know we are not alone." C.S. Lewis Do you love to read? I do.  In fact, I always have a book on deck for my pleasure.  I wake up in the morning and carry my favorite novel downstairs.  It is how I start and end my day.  I am always reading.  It is my quintessential past time.  What do I like about the novels I chose?   I enjoy historical fiction with tales about the human condition.  Or I love stories told in a new place that I have never visited. Afterwards, I want to travel there and sink into the surroundings.  If I enjoy an author, I will read ALL  his or her books.  I tend to read books where the woman is the lead character.   I enjoy the strife, angst, and messiness of the characters' lives and how they prevail with strength, wisdom and love.  The struggle reminds me of the complexity of life and the beauty all in one snapshot.   Additionally, authors who share human drama, vivid details of the landscape and scenery plus poured their h

Happy Valentines Day 2021

Love is in the Air!!!  Or is it Snow? "Where there is love there is life." Mahatma Gandi What Does Valentine's Day Mean to You?  It is snowing hard here in the Pacific Northwest.  We have eight inches, and it is still swirling down and covering everything.  The beauty of snow changing the landscape is a sight to behold.  Ever since I was a child, I have loved the snow.  We used to play endlessly in the streets building snowmen, having snowball fights, making snow angels, sledding and creating igloos. We did not go inside until we were cold, wet, and hungry.  We were always in the elements playing with friends or family members. The days of being a child without a care in the world are indeed cherished.  Today, I love the sound of kids playing in the snow.  It is wonderous.   Of course, Valentines Day 2021 for me is a winter wonderland.  Hopefully, we will continue to have power.  It remains to be seen.  Mother nature moves at its own pace and can never be accurately pr

Winter Fashion 2021

The Chilly Artic "Good clothing is a passport to happiness." Yves Saint Laurent Yves St. Laurent Fashion Exhibit - Seattle Art Museum (2016) The winter of 2021 has been brutally cold across the country.  One for the ages. With snowstorms, bitter winds and ice, the frigid temperatures have seeped into everyone's bones.  Even places slated to be warm in February tend to be on the cooler side of the temperature gage.  Though, I must note that temps are slowly getting warmer in the sun infused states.  Beyond the weather, nerves remain flared as people struggle to get the vaccine, keep safe and bundled up all in one sweep.  The stress is at an all-time high.  It seems to me; we need to sit back and figure out how to be helpful to one another.  To be positive and appreciative for family and friends during these trying moments. We are closer to having everyone vaccinated and getting back to a semi-normal life.  In the meantime, we must be patient and diligent awhile longer.

Pops of Color

Spring is Coming Pixabay Photo - No Attribution Required "Colors are the smiles of nature." Leigh Hunt I think the time has come to sport bright colors and launch ourselves into Spring 2021.  Images of orange, pink, red, yellow and lime greens come to mind.  March is around the corner and soon the flowers will begin to open, blue skies may appear, and a fresh new world is about to burst forth.  I also get the strong sense that people are beginning to feel confident and resuming some of their favorite activities.  For instance, where I play tennis masked, several of my friends have recently come back.  Seeing their twinkling eyes and masked faces brings joy to my heart.
