Forever Chic Style - Fashion Trends of 2012

Forever Chic Style aptly names 2012  "The Year of the Lady"  in fashion.  Apparel was simple, classic yet approachable, fun and stylish, while gracing magazines, social media and the lavish Hollywood award television shows.  Here are the hot picks for 2012:

I. The Scintillating Sheath Dress:  The sheath frock enhanced the figures of many from Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, First Lady Michelle Obama, to talk show hosts and Hollywood celebrities in 2012.  This simple dress combined with red lips, pumps, nylons - yes - nylons, and pearls evokes fashion icon's of the past.  Namely, Audrey Hepburn, so refined, so simple and so completely unforgettable.

II. The Ladylike Suiting Phenomenon:  The suit is authoritative, feminine and key ingredients in a woman's closet.  The suit can be worn together or separately.  Again, glorious Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge stole the show draped in eye beholding suiting all year long.  The perfect solution to appearing formidable while remaining approachable.  Or maybe it is the smile!

III.  Scarves, Scarves and More Scarves:  The perfect accessory draped the necks of women this year.  This special jewel came in  all types of materials, from cashmere to silk, adding drama to the face and completing an ensemble.  Whether the scarf is wrapped on for warmth, or as decoration, one thing is certain - the scarf is the one way to add vivid hues to an outfit transforming a moth like wardrobe into a stunning butterfly!

IV. Say Yes to the Jean Ensemble:  Finally, sweats are gone, stored away or being worn just for working out.  During this holiday season, women out shopping were wearing skinny dark denim jeans, with turtlenecks, overcoats and knee high boots with accessories.  The result was polished, carefree and statement making.

V. Soft and Warm Cashmere Sweaters:  Cashmere sweaters in bright hues with blouses underneath charmingly added warmth and visual sunshine on cold dreary days.  The sweaters came in all forms from cardigans, feminine twinset, long warm sweaters to the sumptuous robe.  Encased in a cashmere sweater is definitely a luxe treat that this here to stay.

VI.  Bold Red Lips and Long Long Lashes:  Lipstick made a comeback in shades of reds, deep wines and luscious pinks.  The Emmy's and Oscars from 2012 began with Angelina Jolie cementing this captivating look.  Complementing the darkly toned lips are long defining lashes from false lashes to gel enhanced.  Bottom line - Makeup is a must and what fun makeup can be for one and all.

VII.  Ready for the Heat - Ray-Ban Sunglasses: From jet setters, celebrities to beach goers, Ray-Ban's were planted firmly on the face from the young to old.   High-tech performance and retro style, in silver or gold were and are stylishly timeless.  Grab a pair and be hip for 2013.

VIII.  Figure Forming One-Piece Swimsuit:  2012 was all about the one-piece swimsuit.  This number is figure slimming and mysteriously sexy on every woman no matter the shape or size.  Slip into a black beauty, add a sunhat, cover-up and embellished flats for a show stopping effect. Never has the one-piece swimsuit beat out the bikini as it did in 2012.

IX.   Make a Statement - iPhone Covers:  The technical accessory of the year was the iPhone skins attached to the infamous and worldwide useful tool - the iPhone.  iPhone covers from Kate Spade, Chanel, Michael Kors and other designers handsomely showcased a person's creativity and style with a fashionable skin.  Remember to use the cell phone judiciously.  Put it away during meals with friends or out on the town.  After all, isn't it nice to be less connected when spending time with friends and loved ones?

X.  Be a Leopard - Leopard Print Everywhere: Leopard spots remain a staple in a closet. From coats, dresses, tops, pants to shoes - the leopard print signifies elegance and fun. Always combine with other colors and never be wear leopard from head to toe.

Forever Chic Style Role Model 2012:  Style, grace, manners and charm all wrapped in one - Catherine, The Duchess of Cambridge.

Forever Chic Style Celebrity Fashionista 2012:  Angelina Jolie was eye catching at the Emmys and Oscars.    One word - unforgettable.

Sisterhood - Belonging

Connection is Everything

"Once women find the sisterhood, there is nothing stronger." Zoe Kravitz
The last few months have been pivotal on proving what is important in life.  At least for me.  While reading numerous books, writing, working in my office, gardening, making dinner, watching Netflix, being with my husband, one powerful thought was apparent, "We need human connection especially, "The Sisterhood."
Having girlfriends is imperative along with your family and loved ones.  The sisterhood is a dynamic elixir that feeds our minds and souls.  And, yes, we can talk for hours, following tangents in conversations and often without garnering or wanting a solution to our angst.  We just want to "be." Men often are the opposite, and not always a fan of our ramblings. We love it that they want to "solve" the issue but we on the other hand just want to vent, analyze, and forget.   After all, we sisters need to state 20,000 words a day versus men …

We ourselves are accustomed to celebrating in the islands viewing a parade, taking walks, wildlife adventures, exquisite dinners and viewing incredible fireworks that fill the sky.  Though this is year is unique, never fret.

Growing up in the Northwest, we had sparklers, black snakes, and fountains to light off in the driveway. We attended barbecues with family or friends and watched…
